Welcome to Rocky Mountain High

We are filmmakers dedicated to mountains and movies.   Our methods are as unrefined as the locations where we capture our images.  Don't expect a slick Hollywood production and we might not disappoint.  Want a glimpse of reality?  Come take a look.

Rocky Mountain High Productions welcomes you to our homepage.

Drink Responsibly the movie

RMH Productions is currently searching for assistance in distributing our latest project.

Drink Responsibly: the Movie is a feature length documentary about a young man's adventure with alcohol.   Consisting entirely of unscripted and undirected scenes and images, the movie delves into uncharted waters of copyright law.  Can a film be distributed commercially if it portrays people without once asking them if they mind?  Do I have to pay Van Halen royalties if their music just happened to be playing in the background while I was shooting my film?  If I capture footage of the White House, is it mine to do with as I please?  Was Deep Throat a snitch or a porno film?  I don't know.  But I hope someone is willing to wager attorney fees against all the publicity the lawsuit will bring so we can all find out.

Yeah, thats what I figured, but still thought it worth the trouble to ask.  Seems like a waste to just slap it up on YouTube.

Our Current Feature:

Recently RMH completed a project almost seven years in the making.  Most likely, it will never be screened at Sundance, or any other film festival for that matter, and maybe that is really for the best.  It isn't that it is a bad film.  In fact, it is mildly entertaining and illustrates a few valid points about life.  No, the real reason it won't be shown is because people don't like having to accept themselves for who they are.

I'm going to say this, and I hope someone reads it.  If you don't want to be caught on film doing something that you don't want on film, you have two choices:  don't do it or stay home.  An image of a private person captured in a public forum is public.  It isn't yours.  Should I have to pay you to use it in my movie?  I think not.  Did I expressedly ask you to provide the image?  No.  Was I merely capturing life and you wandered in front of my lens?  Yes, that is how I would view it.

This industry needs reform.  Things have changed in this world.  If art can't be distributed one way, it will be distributed another.  Maybe this film should be shown at Sundance.  Maybe its just what the industry needs to force the issue.

When I started this project I had hoped that it would be a commercial success.  Now I just hope that it opens up people's minds.
